ABOUT THIS 2 DAY LAB- INTENSIVE SEMINAR

Approved by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy for 21 CCUs (good in 30 states). That's 5 free credits!

16 hr. training module packed into 2 days. Includes ~8 hrs in-water training, 2+ hrs land labs, and tons of evidence. Let’s face it. The population is aging so it’s nice to know you’ve got a powerful solution to the weight of the world… water. Attend a class designed to examine the most common disorders seen in geriatric rehab settings – total hip and knee replacements, arthritisosteoporosis, dependence in gait, Parkinson's, CVA, progressive neurological disorders, cardiopulmonary disorders, and more.

This class will focus exclusively on the geriatric population and participants will examine recent research which supports aquatic therapy for this population. Even better? You’ll get in the water for over 8 hours to practice your new protocols and progressions. On Monday morning, be prepared to make a compelling argument for incorporating aquatic therapy across the geriatric spectrum – from injured elderly to the neurologically impaired, non-ambulatory client.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Justify why aquatic therapy may be the treatment of choice for at least 3 problems common to the geriatric population.

2. Generate a precautions list containing at least 5 precautions for use in an aquatic practice.

3. After reviewing a case study, analyze the strength and applicability of the evidence using Sackett's Hierarchy.

4. After reviewing a case study, describe at least 1 way to make the protocol more challenging for use in the clinic.

5. Integrate 3 aquatic interventions appropriately into a land-based protocol (e.g. for a total hip replacement).

6. Design 3 exercises which a specific patient could safely perform in a community pool when working with a caregiver.

7. Locate 3 helpful resources online which provide additional aquatic progressions for the geriatric population.

8. Compare at least 2 payer regulations for commonalities in their "local coverage determinations" related to CPT code 97113 (aquatic therapy).

9. Perform at least 1 manual aquatic technique which would be appropriate for a patient with spinal stenosis.

10. Using role play, demonstrate at least 3 tasks or activities derived from a specific aquatic specialty technique.

11. Design a 15-minute aquatic exercise program for 1-2 common conditions in the geriatric population.

12. Design at least 1 aquatic intervention to achieve each of the following: increase ROM, minimize contractures, normalize tone, improve motor planning, improve sensory feedback loops, and more.
