ABOUT THIS DISTANCE-LEARNING COURSE

 

This 4-hour training module comes with either 1-4hr DVD or 4 one-hour streaming videos, 1 pdf manual and links to our post-test. This course is designed to serve as a fast-paced, introduction to aquatic therapy fundamentals. Strongly recommended to all aquatic therapy and fitness facilities as the perfect overview of aquatic therapy and exercise.


Works well to show in four 1-hour increments as lunch-n-learns. Get the whole team on the same page and get CE hours on the cheap!  Includes up to 10 post-tests and certificates (order more for just $20 each).


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Describe at least 2 specialized aquatic handling techniques necessary under any 1 of the following therapeutic scenarios: non-weight-bearing, hydrophobic, asymmetric center of buoyancy, fragile skin, hypersensitivity to touch, non-verbal communication, poor head and trunk righting skills, or aspiration risk.

 

2. Describe how to alter movement difficulty by manipulating at least 2 of the following: buoyancy, velocity, streamlining, levers, frontal surface area, and momentum.

 

3. Describe 3 ways that hydrodynamic properties of water would alter at least 1 traditional therapeutic exercise if that exercise was performed in the pool.

 

4. List at least 3 precautions specific to aquatic therapy.

 

6.Verbally identify where to obtain research supporting at least 3 aquatic specialty techniques (such as Watsu®) as discussed during the course.

Salzman is the Founder and Owner of the Aquatic Resources Network, the largest multidisciplinary clearinghouse of information on aquatic therapy. She is Vice President of 10K Health, LLC, a temporary staffing agency. She currently serves as Director of Programming for Aquatic Therapy University and has assisted hundreds of facilities during the start-up and training phases of their aquatic practice.

She has served as:

Certificates of Completion/ Post-Test

Preapproval of CEUs
We have decided to go the extra mile and obtain preapproval of our on-demand courses through the Federation of State Boards of PT. This course is being reviewed by FSBPT for 4 CCU (4 credits). Continuing education certified by FSBPT is currently accepted by the following states.


TARGET AUDIENCE:

This is a 700 series class (teaches Basic skills) and is designed primarily for therapists who have little or no experience working in water.

This course is within the scope of practice of the Physical Therapist and PTA working in aquatic therapy (CPT code 97113). This course does not focus on evaluation or examination of the patient and thus, the content is within the scope of practice for the Physical Therapist Assistant working under the supervision of the Physical Therapist The clinical decision making that occurs during the course is done as a facilitated project which pairs PTs and PTAs working as teams. While the primary audience for the course is the PT provider, other rehabilitation providers, such as the Occupational Therapist and Assistant, who count the therapeutic procedure aquatic therapy within their scope of practice will find it beneficial.

Aquatic therapy is a recognized procedure by the American Medical Association, the American Physical Therapy Association and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Physical therapists and assistants are recognized providers of aquatic therapy in all states and by most payers, including Medicare and Medicaid. The provision of aquatic therapy is not entry-level knowledge; providers need specialized training to practice with this population in the unique environment provided by a therapy pool.
